The workshop on Artificial Intelligence for Development (IA4D) Cape Verde marked the opening of the 12th edition of the Euro-American Conference on Telematics and Information Systems, held on Tuesday, July 2, in auditorium 102 of building 8 on the Palmarejo Grande Campus.
The event took place in a hybrid mode, combining online and face-to-face sessions. In the afternoon, the UNICV’s Responsible and Smart Solutions Lab (RS2LAB – https://rs2lab.com/) gave a practical session to the students on the topic: “How to Use AI to Classify Agricultural Pests?”. In this session, we trained the models with YOLO8 and CNN (MobileNet) in practice, with images of the Turtle (Nezara viridula) and the Corn Cartworm (Spodoptera frugiperda), which are two of the pests that affect crops in Cape Verde.
