On January 27, the University of Cape Verde (Uni-CV) and the PNUD Accelerator Lab in Cape Verde awarded the winners of the “KAFUKA” design competition.
The “Kafuka Renewable Energy” project, which aims to produce handmade 3D-printed solar lamps, was developed by the RS2lab team, in partnership with the students, with the aim of providing sustainable lighting to low-income communities. Elton Tavares, a 3rd year Multimedia Communication Technology student, won the competition, while Clóvis Rodrigues, a 4th year student, received an honorable mention. During the ceremony, Pro-Rector Sónia Semedo emphasized the project’s social impact on energy inclusion. The prototype was exhibited to the public and the RS”LAB team now plans to move on to a pilot production phase, with the goal of making these energy kits available to families in areas with limited access to electricity.
