RS2LAB attends workshop on Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Development

On March 6, 2025, RS²LAB played a leading role in the workshop “Artificial Intelligence: Opportunities and Challenges in Implementing the SDGs”. The event, organized in partnership with UNDP’s Accelerator Lab, brought together experts, researchers and students to debate the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in sustainable development.

The workshop was led by renowned professor Júlio Barros, a specialist in Advanced Engineering Systems, with an emphasis on AI-based industrial systems.
During the presentation, valuable insights were shared on how AI is revolutionizing key sectors such as smart agriculture, inclusive education and health. Among the examples presented were AI-based interactive whiteboards for visually impaired students, early detection systems for skin cancer and solutions for preventing forest fires.

In addition to the innovations, the event also brought reflections on the challenges of AI, including data manipulation, deepfakes and algorithmic bias.
