The Prime Minister highlights the role of research during a visit to Uni-CV’s rs2lab

Praia, April 9, 2025 – On Tuesday, April 9, the Prime Minister of Cape Verde, Ulisses Correia e Silva, visited the rs2lab laboratory, located on the Palmarejo Grande Campus, as part of his official visit to the University of Cape Verde (Uni-CV).
Accompanied by the Minister of Education, Amadeu Cruz, and other official representatives, the head of government was received by the Magnificent Rector of Uni-CV, José Arlindo Barreto, and his rectorial team. The purpose of the visit to rs2lab was to get a closer look at the technological research projects under development at the University.
During the visit, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of scientific research as one of the central pillars of the university’s mission. “The commitment to extension and research is the heart of the university,” he said.

The heads of the laboratory presented the main projects they have completed and are currently working on, with emphasis on initiatives in the areas of the Internet of Things (IoT), automation, artificial intelligence and the development of technological solutions aimed at the challenges facing Cape Verdean society, such as: agriculture, climate change, clean energy, oceans, etc. The delegation was also able to see the strong involvement of students and teachers in applied research activities. The Prime Minister issued a challenge to the rs2lab researchers to find innovative solutions to help combat the pests that affect crops, specifically the thousand-foot pest.
The visit reinforces the government’s commitment to strengthening science, technology and innovation in higher education in Cape Verde.
